Getting Started

Process Post 2

Initially when I set out to put together a blog page, I had not anticipated just how challenging the process would be. I had previous experience working with WordPress, so while it had been some time since I’d last used the platform, I was confident in my abilities and familiarity with the tools available to me. However, something that I had not considered was the fact that with the last website I had worked on, I was given access to an existing site with specific branding criteria to work with. Having those guidelines in place, I was able to work through how to properly use the tools that WordPress had available with the help of several tutorials and support forums to answer any questions I had along the way.

Setting out to put together Considering Cardamom was an entirely different beast. Once I had the domain set up and the necessary plugins installed, I found myself at a little bit of a standstill when it came to putting together the actual content for the blog. One thing I know about myself is that when I have too many options for creative freedom, I find that I tend to blank out on what I actually want. After sorting through a variety of themes and giving a couple of them a preliminary trial run on the site, I finally settled on one that I feel accomplishes the aesthetic and organizational goals I was hoping for. Once that was accomplished, I was able to set up pages and posting categories fairly easily. Currently, my plan is to have all of the my work for Posiel under the category of “Posts”, and then I will have individual recipe categories such as “Appetizers” and “Drinks” which will all be linked under a single recipes page.

I feel good about what I’ve accomplished so far on my site, and I’m looking forward to starting to put recipes together and publish them.
